I love Lisa’s passion for fabulous food, and as she says, being obsessed with her work. We met briefly at an awards ceremony in NYC, and from the moment we were introduced to one another, I knew she was special. I was immediately drawn to her energy, and right off the bat saw that she was someone I’d like to get to know. Digging a little deeper, I spent some time looking at her website and learning more about her company. Reading about her philosophy, I felt it was only right that I make her one of my fabulous friends. I’ve looked at her mouth-watering sample menus and got excited reading how each dish is described, how she’s paired flavors and balanced textures and tastes. It’s not often I think to myself that I’d love to try that, and that, and that. But in fact, I really feel that way about Lisa’s work, and I hope I get the chance to work with her as well as dine in her restaurant Pomegranate should I find myself in Redmond, Washington. It would be a great pleasure and an extraordinary treat.
Don’t miss the chance to taste for yourself if you happen to be headed her way!
Tips from Lisa Dupar
- In the pre-planning stage, tell your caterer your top three “must haves” for the event. If flowers are more important than music or food is more meaningful that photos, then this will help your planner focus the event budget in the places that are the most significant to you.
- A sweet and subtle acknowledgment of your guests would be to strike a balance between food you love and want to enjoy at your party with a meaningful dish for a special guest. You may have a grandparent that would love to see her Italian pastry included in the dessert buffet. Keep it a surprise until the event and perhaps have that special someone be a part of serving the item with you.
- After you have invested your time planning the event with your caterer, let go of the millions of details and ENJOY your party. Let the servers and chefs spoil you and your guests. Remain flexible! Once a sprinkler system went off on the wedding party, and as I was holding my breath in disbelief, they all laughed and ran through it - it was amazing - I will never forget the smiles, giggles and unique wedding photos that came from that “mishap”. They will never stop talking about that moment.
- Consider how your servers are dressed. This can really add to the “look” of your event. A 007 Cocktail Party may have all male servers in tuxedos or a beach party may have staff in khakis and matching boat shoes. Have fun with special tees for a Sweet 16 or Bar Mitzvah! It all adds to the mood of the party.
- You don’t have to make a tradition yours if you don’t like it! If you and your fiancé don’t like wedding cake, you can have wedding pies, donuts, jello shots, cotton candy, croquet-em-bouche or cream puffs. Caterers love to be creative - just ask. Your guests will enjoy whatever you are serving as they will be having fun if you are having a good time!
