SOUTH ASIAN BRIDE MAGAZINE

It’s such a pleasure to meet people who really are at the top of their game. When I first came across Sadaf’s magazine South Asian Bride, I was immediately impressed. The magazine is glamorous, beautifully photographed, impeccably curated, and well written. As the editor in chief and founder of the magazine, the credit is entirely hers, and well deserved.

There are so many bridal magazines on the market today, many of them a grab bag of ideas with very little creative and editorial direction; South Asian Bride is a breath of fresh air. After speaking with Sadaf on the phone and getting a sense of her vision, I couldn’t help but feel inspired and intrigued. Each issue is filled with great ideas for celebrations, fashion and beauty, and of course travel and honeymoon hot spots, and even though the magazine is targeted to a specific audience, the content crosses all boundaries.

It’s always been my dream to design a wedding in India, and after reading South Asian Bride, my mind is rich with fresh ideas, not just for an Indian wedding, but many I hope to use whether my Indian dream wedding comes true or not.

Thank you Sadaf for being such a great inspiration and creative talent

Sadaf Kherani's Tips:

  • On Fashion. If you want to incorporate exotic Indian wedding elements into your bridal wear, go for fabrics that have a somewhat ornate look, such as brocades, silks or even jewel-tone fabrics. Swarovski crystals, pearl embroidery, paisley work, gold beadwork and extravagant net borders (with detailed cutwork) can also give an opulent feel to a modern wedding gown. For the truly adventurous, consider changing into a breathtaking sari for your reception, or before you cut the cake.
  • On Event Design. Incorporating Indian design elements into your event’s color and design motif can add a touch of regal elegance that is sure to dazzle your guests. This can be as simple as adding a paisley design to invitations or cakes; putting jewel-tone linens on your tables; adding crystals and sparkle to your centerpieces or hair; or using rich reds, oranges and golds instead of the more traditional white. You can even consider tapestries and throw pillows for your cocktail area to give it a unique flair. Indian design elements photograph beautifully and can heighten the glamour of any event.
  • On Jewelry. Play up your modern and sleek wedding gown with a splash of glamorous and avant-garde ethnic jewelry. Colorful stones, sparkling gold, platinum and diamonds, chandelier earrings, and ornate bangles can sparkle up your wedding wardrobe. Don’t be afraid to have your jewelry make a statement, and don’t be afraid of color.
  • On Makeup. Indian and South Asian brides almost always focus their make up on the eyes. The exotic brides from South Asian countries usually opt for strong brow arches and dark eyeliner, complete with eye shadows in dramatic hues that match their colorful outfits. Indian-themed palettes have inspired everyone from MAC and Lancome to Givenchy and Stila to create collections that pay homage to a gilded and royal Indian look. Henna tattoos (called “mehndi”), and a jeweled bindi can also add to any Indian Goddess look. You can even hire a mehndi artist for your rehearsal dinner, which is always fun for your guests.
  • On Event Planning. Those of us in the wedding business believe that it is essential to have a good event planner. Why? Because we all know that a couple will enjoy their event far more if they don’t have to spend all their time managing the thousands of little details that make up a wedding. Whether you’re having your wedding in a major metropolitan city here in the US, or you’re opting for a breathtaking destination wedding in an exotic locale, hiring a planner will enable you to relax and enjoy your event.
